You might have seen the original Shift Happens a few months ago, but it’s been remade, a little more professionally, still called Shift Happens, still kind of scary.

Wow! Very powerful stuff. It’s hard to believe that all of this data growth is just getting started. And that it is growing exponentially!
I heard a while back that as the data grows, Google will get better and better. That company is going to be so huge in the future if they continue on their current track.
Does the phrase signal to noise ratio not mean anything to anyone anymore?
Sure, lots of data is being produced. Companies are sprouting up at faster rates than in the past due to population growth and lower barriers to entry (go technology).
But most data, companies, blogs, text messages, etc. are just part of the daily noise that is the modern world.
You can safely ignore most of what’s going on when it’s in “startup mode” and wait until it’s more accepted to care about it.
I found myself reading tons of blogs daily, and it was overwhelming. Then I basically cut myself off from my feed reader and only check things manually when I have a spare moment. Guess what? I’m not any less informed than I was before, and I have more time for things that matter (actual work, spending time with family, etc.).
Technology makes it easier than ever to endlessly waste one’s time.
