		<description>As far as I have know the minimum value guarantee given by large companies to their executives, and sometimes to other employees that are being relocated, has been a fairly common practice for a long time.  The employee gets a specific amount of time to try to sell their home for as much as possible and if they cannot get more than a certain amount the company buys the home from them for the minimum that was set so that the employee can close on their purchase in the new location without large fears of loss due to moving.  It is just another signing bonus for getting people to accept moving to a new area that they might not have wanted to go to in the first place.  As long as there are shortages of quality employees for certain types of jobs there will be signing bonuses and this is just one of them.

As for relocation companies, I have never had to deal with a referral fee that I did not personally approve.  However, I have heard that there are some companies that will tell clients to use a local agent to find a home, but not to sign an agreement, and them buy the home through them.  This way they do no work and get the full commission.  This is highly unethical IMO and harder to prove.</description>
