Hi Marlow,

I agree these tools are neat and addicting, but I also think they bring real value beyond the "coolness".

One of the things I like the best is being able to drag the map in any direction and have it dynamically generate the new listings for the adjusted map area. Also, I really like being able to zoom in and out to narrow or broaden my search quickly. I like being able to hover over a push pin and have all the info about that property pop up.

Another function that is extra great is the linking of listings with Google Earth such as Prudential Preferred Properties has done here: http://www2.prupref.com/announce/google-earth.php

Being able to see the actual landscape at the same time I'm looking at the listing information gives me so much more than I could ever get from a plain list. And, when that is dynamically connected to information about what's in the neighborhood, I can really start to understand the whole picture about the property and its value.

So, my answer to your question is, yes, it IS ultimately better!

Umm, gimmicky comes to mind - http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/realestate/archives/103396.asp

House boat? Miner had a lot of influence, apparently.
Lot w/utilities? How many bird dogs can there be?

Though I do like the garage & level filters.

Well, I take my laptop to the coffee shop too. Also, my TREO goes with me everywhere, so I can check my email and any new listings. HOWEVER, you must agree that compared to the average American, we're GEEKS! The average person still does not do these things. I plan my vacations around which hotel has wireless internet access and am seriously considering cancelling a visit to a National Park this summer because I found out that neither my cellphone, nor my computer will work up there. I already cancelled a cruise because of the logistics and costs associated with staying online while I travel. That's pathetic. But I know I'm in the minority. But I know that YOU will probably relate, as will others......

marlow,

Advertising your home for sale in the local Sunday paper should still be part of every agents marketing plan. Why? Because people still do look there!

Let's not forget that there are many people out there that are just not computer savvy or are just accustomed to using print for there home or job search. They should not be forgotten.

P.S. "You can’t read your computer while having a latte at Starbucks on Sunday morning, but you can easily pick up the Sunday Times"

On occasion, I have strolled down to my local starbucks for a grande moca frap while searching the web on my wireless laptop for hot real estate news & listings...:)
